Why?

  1. Create awareness about the IDSDP
  2. Popularize a reading culture amongst young people
  3. Encourage teenagers to learn about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the parts they can play
  4. Stimulate the development of cognitive abilities through intellectual competition amongst secondary school students in Nigeria
  5. Reward intellectual prowess of distinguished youngsters via scholarships and other items

Eligibility

  1. Candidate must be a secondary school student
  2. Candidate must submit a scanned copy of a handwritten essay (850 words maximum)
  3. Candidate must submit a passport photograph
  4. Candidate must submit a copy of a birth certificate, national ID or passport

Selection Criteria & Procedure

  1. Entries received for the competition will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges made up of professors from Nigerian universities, who will then shortlist ten (10) essays for further assessment
  2. Following this, a second round of competition will involve the 10 finalists who will write a second supervised essay from which three (3) best essays will be selected as the three best overall winners of the competition.

Awards

The prize structure for this essay competition is currently under review, as we are still actively considering on what would benefits our candidates. The rewards for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places will vary based on the final results.
