Play for Peace Naija, now in its fourth (4th) year, is a novelty football game used to commemorate the IDSDP.
Grassroots football teams are selected to play alongside a special team made up exclusively of Persons of Concern (PoC) – a population of persons identified by the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, as refugees, returnees, stateless people, internally displaced, and asylum seekers.
The very first edition held in 2019 at the Campos Memorial Mini Stadium, Lagos Island. We couldn’t hold it in 2020 and 2021 because of COVID, thus the second edition held in 2022 in a grander way. Ditto for 2023 when we held the third (3rd) edition.
In 2024, we will hold the 4th edition in Lagos.
